1. Every Time It’s Different #
Not sure where this particular image comes from. But this exchange comes from a Season 2 episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation called “The Dauphin.” Young Wesley Crusher has just had his heart broken for the first time and feels like he’ll never get over it. Super wise long-lived alien bartender Guinan advises him on his heartbreak. The entire scene is really good. Here it is if you want to watch it.
And here’s the dialogue if you don’t:
Wesley: I miss her. I feel… empty.
Guinan: I know that sensation, but there’ll come a time when all you remember is the love.
Wesley: I’m never gonna to feel this way about anyone else.
Guinan: You’re right.
Wesley: I didn’t expect you to say that.
Guinan: There’ll be others. But every time you feel love, it’ll be different. Every time it’s different.
Wesley: Knowing that doesn’t make it any easier.
Guinan: It’s not supposed to.
It’s one heck of a way to end an episode. And it’s something important to keep in mind, whether you’re poly, mono, or something else altogether: Every time you feel love, it’s different.
