Is It a Date?

“What do you think? Do you want to get together?”

“Sure, that sounds great.”

Schedules are coordinated, the time is set, logistics set. Your place, theirs? Who’s driving? Going out or staying in or both?

Aaaaaaand we’re good.

Except it’s unclear whether it’s a hangout or a date.

This is especially problematic as it’s my preference to meet and get to know people in a lower-pressure setting first as friends and then if the spark catches to get involved physically. So I could be friends with someone for years, fool around with them a few times at parties, and then make plans to hang one on one, completely confused as to expectations on both sides.

It’s kind of awkward – and probably not helped by the fact that I flirt with so many of my friends. Even flirting and prior physical involvement are no real definitive indicator.

Mostly this has resulted in doing an extra good job shaving my legs every time I grab dinner with a friend I find attractive.

To be honest, I’ve been a bit of a hermit lately and haven’t hung out much with folks outside of parties for some time (damn job has been sucking the life out of me, and I was just lying down and letting it), but I’m looking to be more social and find myself running into this again.

I guess I could just come out and ask, but then again, I don’t want to make things weird.

At least I’ll have smooth legs?
